Its surprising how your birth order influences your personality. I am the first born in my family. I can identify myself with most of the characteristic that a first born child has, according to the Birth Order Research. Although I don’t entirely agree with what the Birth Order Research has to say about first borns, in general I agree with their research. Some of the characteristics I can identify with as a first child is that we are achievers and most of the time sarcastic. The mental traits of a first born, according to the B.O.R., are strong powers of concentration and mental discipline.
One of the characteristics of first borns is that we are sarcastic. Personally I think this applies to me because I am sarcastic a lot of the time. I like to get a laugh out of everything. Even though sarcasm can get me in trouble sometimes. There was a time when we were picking out food for my party and the food we tried, which was chicken, was gross. When my mom asked me if I liked it I said that I loved it but sarcastically. She ended up getting the chicken so when I told her I really didn’t like it she got mad, but didn’t change the menu. Being an achiever is also a characteristic of first borns. I concur with this entirely. When I set a goal I don’t like to stop until I reach my goal. Take for example my seventh grade year. I said id get straight A’s and I did. I finished and turned in all my assignments. All the hard work was worth it because I ended up getting exactly what I wanted. Therefore, yes I agree with what the Birth Order Research has to say about the personality of first borns.
The Birth Order Research says that some mental traits of first borns are that they usually have strong powers of concentration and mental discipline. One of the things I don’t agree on with the Birth Order Research is that first borns have a strong concentration. My concentration span is really short. Ever heard of the saying “You have the attention span of a fly?” Well that would be me. I get distracted easily no matter what I’m doing. I lost my bag at the airport one time because I got distracted looking at the other passengers. Even in class I cant pay attention for long periods of time. Another mental trait of first borns is that they have mental discipline. I agree with that trait. I like to keep everything organized including my thoughts. Everything I do has an order in which it has to be done.
According to the Birth Order Research first borns usually take interest in law careers. This applies to me in a certain way. I haven’t made up my mind yet about being an English high school teacher or a lawyer. Ever since I was small I wanted to be a teacher, but a year ago during career day I met a lawyer who inspired me. I really considering the idea of becoming a lawyer. The Birth Order says that generally first borns like to be perfectionists. Personally I think this character trait goes with me. I wont give up until I get things exactly the way I want them. One time I spent over three hours putting pictures on my wall. I places them and rearranged them until I liked the way they looked. So apparently yes I am a perfectionist.
The Birth Order Research has good points but some of their opinions as you can see can be argued. In general I agree with what the B.O.R. has to say about first borns because I am sarcastic, an achiever, I have mental discipline, I am considering being a lawyer, and I am a perfectionist. Although I don’t agree that first borns have strong powers of concentration, because I have a short attention span. Even if you are a first born and we share some characteristics we are all different and that makes us unique.
